Privacy.
worldband has no accounts, analytics or ads. This policy says exactly what the app and this website do with personal data, who handles it, and what you can ask of us.
Last updated 9 November 2026
1. Who we are
- worldband is made by edbn ("we", "us"), based in India. We decide how the personal data described here is used, which makes us its controller under the GDPR and UK GDPR, the business under U.S. state privacy laws, and the data fiduciary under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, where those laws apply.
- This policy covers the worldband app for Mac, iPhone and iPad, and this website at worldband.edbn.me.
- On this website, worldband's extras are sold by our reseller Polar, and in the App Store by Apple. Each handles the payment details it collects under its own privacy policy.
- Write to worldband@edbn.me about anything here. That address reaches the person who makes worldband. We haven't appointed a data protection officer, as we aren't required to.
2. In short
- The app collects nothing about you or how you use it: no account, analytics, ads, tracking or crash reports.
- To play a station, the app connects to that station's own server, which sees your IP address, as any website does.
- Your location is used only when you choose Near Me, and never leaves your device.
- This website sets no cookies and counts no visits.
- Payments are taken by Polar on this website, and by Apple in the App Store. We never see your card.
- We don't sell personal data or share it for advertising.
3. What the app connects to
Each of these is a plain web request, which carries your IP address and the app's version, and nothing else about you unless it says so.
- Stations. Audio comes straight from each station's server while you listen to it.
- Logos. Each station's logo loads from the station's own website.
- Maps. The map comes from Apple Maps, under Apple's privacy policy.
- Radio Browser. When you play a station, the app tells Radio Browser which one, as their rules ask, so its directory can show what's popular. It sends no personal data.
- NASA. Today's Earth downloads a daily image from NASA.
- The station list. About once a day the app asks this website whether there's a newer list, and downloads it when there is. If the website can't answer, it asks GitHub.
- Your license (Mac). When you activate a key, the app sends it and your Mac's name to Polar, so the key can count which Macs use it. About once a week it asks Polar whether the key is still active. Deactivating tells Polar to free that Mac's place.
- Updates (Mac). About once a day the app checks this website for a new version, and downloads it from this website, or from GitHub if the website can't serve it.
- Purchases (iPhone and iPad). Handled by Apple. We get sales figures from Apple, not who you are.
- iCloud. If you turn on sync, your favorites go to your own iCloud account, which we can't see.
4. What stays on your device
- Your favorites and settings, in the app's own storage.
- Your license key (Mac), in your keychain.
- Your location, when you choose Near Me. It's used to find stations near you, then forgotten.
- None of this is sent to us. Delete the app to remove it.
5. This website
Hosting
- The website runs on Cloudflare, which receives your IP address, browser and the page asked for in order to deliver and protect it. We don't keep logs of visits ourselves. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
No analytics, no cookies
- We don't count visits or track clicks, and the website sets no cookies.
What it keeps in your browser
- On the thank-you page, the id of your checkout, in that tab only, so reloading it still finds your key. It goes when the tab closes.
6. Buying on this website
- On this website, worldband's extras are sold by Polar Software, Inc., our reseller and the merchant of record. Polar takes the payment, charges and pays the tax, sends your receipt and handles refunds. It collects your name, email address, billing address and payment details for that under Polar's privacy policy. We never see or store card details.
- Polar gives us your email address, country, what you bought and what you paid, and keeps your license key and the Macs using it for us. We use them only to deliver your key, to help when you write, and for our records.
- The thank-you page asks this website for your key, which asks Polar. The website keeps nothing about you, and shows your email address only partly.
- Once a week we copy the order and license records Polar keeps for us to private storage at Cloudflare, so a fault at Polar can't lose anyone's purchase. Each copy holds your order number and date, what you paid, your country, your email address and name, and your license key and its state. Only we can reach it, and each copy is deleted after 12 months.
7. Email
- Email you send to worldband@edbn.me is read by the person who makes worldband, kept as long as it helps to answer you, and never shared. To have it deleted, ask.
8. Why we use it
- To deliver what you bought, and to support it: your order, key, Macs and messages. This is needed to perform our contract with you.
- To run and protect the website and the app's services, in ways that don't identify you to us. These are our legitimate interests, and you can object to them.
- To keep records the law requires, such as tax records, which Polar and Apple keep as the sellers of record.
- We make no automated decisions about you that have legal or similar effects, and build no profiles.
9. Who else handles it
- Radio stations: each sees your IP address while you listen, under its own policy.
- Apple: the map, iCloud sync, and purchases on iPhone and iPad.
- Polar: our reseller for purchases on this website, which also keeps license keys for us.
- Cloudflare: hosting and security for this website, the app's downloads and station list, and the weekly backup of order and license records.
- Radio Browser, NASA and GitHub: the station directory, Today's Earth, and a second copy of the station list and updates. See GitHub's privacy statement.
- We share personal data only with these services, only for these purposes, and otherwise only when the law requires it or to protect our rights. If worldband is ever sold, it would pass to the new owner under this policy.
10. International transfers
- We are based in India, and the services above work in many countries, including the United States. Your personal data may be handled outside the country where you live.
- Where the GDPR, UK GDPR or Swiss law requires it, those transfers rely on an adequacy decision, such as the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework where a service is certified, or on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses in the services' data processing terms.
11. How long we keep it
- Orders, receipts and keys: as long as Polar or Apple must keep them for tax and accounting, usually several years.
- Our weekly backup copies of order and license records: 12 months, then deleted.
- Email: as long as it helps to answer you, and sooner deleted when you ask.
12. Security
- Everything this website sends travels over HTTPS, with a strict Content Security Policy and other security headers. Its token for Polar is kept as a secret that can do only what the website needs. The backup has its own token, which can only read orders and keys, and writes to storage that isn't public.
- On your Mac, your license key is kept in your keychain.
- No system is perfectly secure. If a breach ever put your personal data at risk, we would tell you and the authorities as the law requires.
- To report a security problem, email worldband@edbn.me.
13. Your rights
- Depending on where you live, you can ask to see the personal data we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, to receive it in a portable form, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to withdraw consent you gave. We won't treat you differently for asking.
- EEA, UK and Switzerland: you can also complain to your data protection authority.
- United States: we don't sell personal data or share it for targeted advertising.
- India: under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you can ask for a summary of your data and how it is used, have it corrected or erased, nominate someone to act for you, and raise a grievance with us. If you aren't satisfied, you can approach the Data Protection Board of India.
- Email worldband@edbn.me from the address you used, and we'll answer within a month, or sooner where the law requires. For purchases, Polar or Apple may need to act too, and we'll help.
14. Children
- worldband and this website aren't directed to children under 13, or under 16 in the EEA and UK, and we don't knowingly collect their personal data. If you think a child has given us some, email us and we'll delete it.
15. Changes
- If this policy changes, the new version will be here with a new date at the top. If a change matters, we'll say so on this page before it takes effect.
16. Contact
